About Triever

When I picked up Trieve at Dee Dee’s, I had my choice between him and Quick. I probably could not have gone wrong picking either one. Dee Dee gave them a duck and they both ran all over with it. Trieve turned out to be the best natural marker I have ever had, either Golden or Lab. I only wish I had known more when I trained him. Trieve easily got his hunt test titles, earning a MHR in NAHRA and a MH in AKC, and had 11 ½ All Age points, including an Amateur win and an Open second.

I made the fatal error of loaning Trieve to my husband. Richard had qualified Trieve’s son Rip for the Master National, and I thought it would be more fun for Richard to run two dogs so sent Trieve along. The next things I knew, Trieve was running in agility trials and having a ball. I didn’t have the heart to take him back from my husband. Trieve’s mid-life career change led to an MX and MXJ (plus various other agility titles), and he was videoed as an example of excellence in doing the weave poles. He retained his athletic ability until the day he died, running agility tests while over the age of ten. I think he could have excelled in any venue.

Trieve was used as a demo dog in nursing homes and schools. He was the one who was used to baby sit our first grandchild so we could all eat Christmas dinner in peace. He was very handsome inside and out, and we still miss him.
