Top All In 2010 High In Trial Listing
We started the year with one goal in mind – to be the number one Golden Retriever through the Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA) in obedience. I have won that honor once before back in 1985 with my Gaines Classic Super dog winner OTCH Splashdown Tess of Culynwood. That was before kids, now a few dogs later and no more worries about the kids at home, I have the right dog at the right time in my life. Not only did Dream win number one Golden, but she earned more High In Trials than any other dog (all-breed) for 2010.
The GRCA award is called the Toby Trigger trophy and is awarded by the National Club to the Golden Retriever with the most Toby Trigger points for the year. Toby Trigger points are earned based on placement: you earn 4 points for a first place, 3 points for a second place, 2 points for a third place, and 1 point for a fourth place. What is nice about that is you do not need a lot of dogs in the classes to earn points. In California you are lucky if you can come home with 10 OTCH points after winning both classes.
I showed Dream 88 times and won 115 1st places; she was out of the placements only three times, and NQ’d only a few times. There were a few shows Dream was only shown in one class because the judge of the other class trained with me. There were more shows that we missed because I had to judge. Dreams consistency was great and I could not believe the amount of High In Trials and High Combineds Dream won by the end of the year. In 2010, she won 56 HIT’s and 56 HC’s along with 5 perfect scores of 200, to give her a AKC lifetime total or seventeen 200’s.
It has been a wonderful ride – I met so many people, and made many friends along the way. I wish I could list everyone, but that would be a book in itself. I would like to say thank you to all for the kindness and encouraging words along the way. And to those that train with us and show with us, thanks for understanding why I showed Dream so much in the area. Even your wishes for Dream to win while you were competing against us meant a great deal to me. It is nice to win, but rewarding to have a student win too.
With so many days away from home, I missed a lot of birthday and holidays. My family was very understanding, but I am making up for it now. My husband Billy mostly stayed home so I could show Dream. Since we both teach obedience, he gave most of the lessons while I was away. Lucky for me I was able to give lessons while I was on the road. That sure helped to pay our way to this achievement.
If Dreams scores started to fall a little, I would have Billy run us through at home. His watchful eye and feedback would help us pick our scores back up for the next shows. We may have small shows here, but the competition is good, with many great working dogs.
Dream has her fan club and she loves it. All Dream asks for is a nice pat on the head from any one that will offer one. She goes to dog shows to perform and come out of the ring to have someone touch her. I try and tell her all the people at shows are not there for her, but she does not believe me.
A friend said to me in the middle of last year, I bet you cannot wait for the year to be over. “Over I said, I hope it never ends!”
Rationale
The Front & Finish® High In Trial Listing recognizes all dogs and handlers acquiring at least one high in trial award at an AKC obedience trial during a given competition year. The high in trial award means that the dog and handler earned the highest total score from any class at a given trial. This listing ranks all teams starting with the most high in trial awards received. All dogs tying for a given position are listed. Front & Finish® would like to extend a hearty congratulations to all teams earning a place in this year’s listing.
